Cloakrooms may be one of the smallest rooms in a home, but they offer a fantastic opportunity to be adventurous with design. This Cardiff cloakroom formed part of a wider house renovation. Rather than simply replacing the existing fittings, we looked at how the layout could be improved to make the room considerably more practical as well as more attractive.

The original layout was completely re-considered, with the toilet and basin moved to an alternative wall. This allowed us to remove the exposed pipework that had previously been difficult to clean and replace it with neat, handmade panels that are much easier to maintain. A Roca concealed cistern and back-to-wall toilet create a streamlined finish, while the black vanity unit with integrated basin makes excellent use of the available space.

As part of the design process, we explored different layouts, tile combinations, wall colours and brassware before settling on a geometric tile and light blue feature wall. The finished cloakroom has a strong sense of personality without overwhelming the small space. It is a great example of how careful planning and good bathroom design can turn even the most overlooked room into a practical and characterful part of the home.
