German designer kitchen with Corian worktops

A new side and rear extension gave this Bridgend home a combined kitchen, dining and living space and the owners wanted each zone to flow into the next while still feeling distinct in its own right. The kitchen itself was built around an earthy palette of browns, coffees and creams, lifted by a colourful metro-tile splashback with hints of blue and bronze metallic. The cabinets are finished with bold steel pull handles for a popular industrial edge.

The real design challenge sat in the room's structure: wide-diameter support pillars stood directly in the path of the intended worktop run. A Corian worktop was the only material capable of solving the issue. Corian’s seamless, mouldable surface is capable of wrapping cleanly around the pillar rather than sitting awkwardly against it. Rather than disguising the structural column, the design absorbed it, turning a potential obstacle into a genuine feature the owners loved.

Generous base and tall units, sized specifically to house Miele appliances, gave this larger kitchen the storage capacity it needed. It's a strong example of how the right material choice, properly specified, can turn a structural obstruction into part of the design story rather than a compromise.
