Modern kitchen with a twist

Mr and Mrs Chorley of Newport commissioned Your Space Living while their stunning rear extension was still being planned, with a brief that was refreshingly bold: a modern German kitchen blending contemporary design with 60's chic, and genuine freedom to experiment with colour.

We presented numerous design concepts before settling on the final look. A central island overlooking the new open-plan living area, with a striking mix of handleless and handled units in petrol blue and white. This is lifted further by green, blue and red shelving adding real personality throughout the room.

Because the kitchen was designed before the extension was finished, close coordination with the architect and builder was essential. Construction plans do shift, and kitchen design rarely sits at the top of a builder's priority list. So we stayed in constant communication throughout the build. We adapted the design where needed so it fitted perfectly in the finished space.

This project shows exactly why bringing a designer in early pays off. When kitchen, architect and builder are genuinely working from the same page, even the boldest, most colourful brief comes together without a hitch.
