Small ensuite shower with calacatta tiles

This tiny ensuite, tucked into the corner a Cardiff master bedroom, was a big challenge packed into a small footprint. Before any design work could begin, the old macerator waste system had to be removed entirely and upgraded to a standard waste pipe, routed from the front of the house through to the back — including fresh excavation to create a new soil stack connecting into the original sewage system. It's exactly the kind of unglamorous groundwork that has to be right before a single tile goes on the wall.

With the technical side properly resolved, the design focused on making the most of the space. Timeless Calacatta tiles help this tiny room feel far larger than it is. While a large mirror is integrated into a tiled, illuminated bulkhead that adds genuine depth to the room. Recessed shelving with steel trims and contrasting tile detailing on the back wall adds practicality without eating into the floor space.

It's proof that even the smallest, most technically awkward bathroom can be transformed into somewhere genuinely special. So long as the unseen plumbing gets exactly the same care and attention as the tiles on show.
